About

In short

I got my first PC when I was ten or twelve. Sure, I gamed a lot, but what really got me was what's going on behind the games. In Minecraft I tried out mods, built stuff with redstone and command blocks, set up my own servers and had my first go at programming. At some point I was taking my PC apart all the time, and in the end I just built my own.

In 2022 I started my apprenticeship as an IT systems electronics technician at arados GmbH in Sulzbach-Rosenberg. I'm still there today.

At home it keeps going, with my homelab and smart home. I like that I can build everything exactly the way I want it. It's best when you don't even notice anything is running: in the morning the lights slowly get brighter, and when I walk from the kitchen to the couch, the light there is already on.

What surprises people
That I'm pretty creative and good at putting myself in other people's shoes. I get along with almost everyone. Almost.
I like working
From home when I need to focus. At the office when I want people around.

Focus areas

Under each one you'll find where you can see it for yourself.

Microsoft 365 & Windows

That's my job. I look after Microsoft 365 and Windows environments, set things up, do support and chase down problems until they're gone.

Homelab

A Proxmox cluster with my own services, backups, monitoring and a firewall. I'd rather have my stuff running at home than in someone else's data center.

Network & security

Separate networks for smart home devices, cameras and guests. My web interfaces sit behind a reverse proxy with HTTPS and a login in front, and for everything important I use a YubiKey.

Backups & power

Backups to the NAS every night, plus an encrypted copy in the cloud. If the power goes out, my own shutdown manager brings everything down cleanly before the UPS runs dry.

Smart home

Home Assistant with Matter and Thread, my own dashboards and a lot of automations. Most of the lamps at my place nobody switches by hand anymore.

Maker

ESP32 displays, 3D printing and small tools for Windows and Mac. Usually because I needed something that didn't exist the way I wanted.

A chain reaction instead of a light switch

This is what an automation looks like at my place: a sensor notices something, Home Assistant decides, a radio command goes out. And the light is on before I reach for the switch.

Light colourOr tap the machine.
  1. Sensor notices motion
  2. Automation starts
  3. Rules kick in
  4. Command over Matter
  5. Light on

Some call that lazy – I call it efficient.

How I work

I'm an IT technician, not a developer. The code for my projects and for this website is written by AI. I say what I need, test the result, point out what's off and decide in the end what stays. That's called vibe coding.

What I bring is the idea of how a tool should feel in everyday use. And the patience to keep testing until it actually does.

Background

  1. 2022 – 2025

Apprenticeship as an IT systems electronics technician (IT-Systemelektroniker) at arados GmbH in Sulzbach-Rosenberg

  2. 2025 – today

IT systems administrator and field service technician at arados

What's next

I want to specialise in IT security, especially around the modern workplace. What I find interesting is role concepts: not everyone needs Global Admin. Everyone should have exactly the rights they need for their work, and nothing more.
